Day 2 - Grantville, PA to Logan, OH
We arrived at Smoking Aces BBQ in Grantville, PA around 5:30 pm on Sunday. The owner greeted us right away. Told us he usually stays open til 7p, but tonight would be closing early due to lack of staff and a crazy ass day. LOL But he wanted to stay open for us. We each ordered some fried ribs (which neither of us had ever tried), they were delicious. He didn't have any smoked ribs, so I think John was a bit disappointed with that and I opted not to have the smoked wings because, well...I don't like smoked. Super nice guy. Very down to earth and chatty. He may have overshared a bit, but we were happy to listen. For those considering opening a restaurant, don't. He said he was thinking of going back to his food truck so he could enjoy life, while making a living. He also mentioned if he could count on staff to be there when they need to be then that would be a different story. His food was delicious and just seemed like a nice guy. Teased us about being from MA (we saw a Steelers logo, so knew who he supported). He also wanted to know if we had met his twin brother (his joking attempt at trying to forget his oversharing). We were able to set up our little table and chair, eat our dinner outside and enjoy the fresh air. There was a casino a half mile away, but we were spent and just chilled.
We departed to Logan, OH around 9:40am on Monday!!! It looked like a nice place to hold over before we head to the National Air Force Museum on 9/4. The travel included passing through Maryland (which kind of freaked us out for a moment, since we had forgotten there was a large of strip of land that jutted out from the main part of Maryland we thought we started heading east again - gahhhh). All was well. We passed through West Virginia - a new stop for us. Took a break and climbed a little look out. Traffic was practically nil, as you can see in a pic below. Beautiful landscape, but for a good while we were seeing lots of warehouses. In fact, Target's had to have been nearly a mile long. It was crazy.
We arrived at Hocking Hills State Park around 4:15 after about 6.5 hours of driving. A little tired, a little cranky, but we set up and started to explore. You've got to see the pictures!!! So many great places to hike, but the thing that enticed us to stay here were the waterfalls and a pretty cool cave. Old Man's Cave!!! All this where we camped (with full hook up). The cave was amazing, but the waterfalls were all dried up, so we opted to pass on some of the hikes. I would definitely love to come here again, but in the spring when the waterfalls are full. Getting to the cave and then back up - so many stairs!!! I'd do it again. So worth it.
Look at the pic above, now zoom in. there are people there. I purposely took it to show the size of the cave. Pictures don't do it justice, so it was perfect that someone was walking down to provide that perspective.
I mean you can even see how small John is in this pic.
This is the view of The Sphinx - it reminds me of the Old Man in the Mountain.
This is typically filled with water. The top view of the Lower Falls
no idea - no explanation, but intriguing
The view of the Lower Falls from the bottom . I took a video, not sure it is able to be seen on here, but the "waterfall" was a trickle
He loves to be on top of me - so when he stays in the back during the drive, I'm ok with that.

I am loving all of your adventures 🤩
