Day 4 to 5 - Dayton, OH to Owensboro, KY

Owensboro, KY, to visit my dad was our next planned stop.  Originally we had planned to arrive on Sept. 5, because we weren't sure how long we'd spend in the museum.  But we were out around 2:15, so decided to make the 4 hour drive Wednesday night instead of in the morn.   We got to my dad's around 7:30 pm (we stopped for dinner) and when I had set up our trip in RV Life, I input Owensboro, but not his exact address so it brought us to the center of town instead of his house.  John was noticing this and mentioned it just as my dad called and asked us "where the hell are you going?"   Guess we could have been there a half hour earlier.  Oops...we have some friends we'll be seeing in Kansas City, so I made sure to put their address in so we didn't do the same thing when we head there.  😜

So, we arrived on Sept. 4th., which happened to be my parents' 59th wedding anniversary.  A day my dad still holds dear (even though they have been divorced for about 44 years LOL).  Age, wisdom and an appreciation for people in our lives is what allows us to find love and beauty in our lives.  I am grateful my parents found mutual love and respect for each other in their later years.  So, arriving this day was a bonus.  We love to play cards when we hang with my dad, so he was excited to have us there to play.  Sadly that wasn't going to happen that night.  I was beat and so was John (he's doing all the driving).  I climbed into bed and snuggled in, but realized I wanted a couple of tissues handy, so I got up to grab them when I heard Minou (pronounced ME-NEW) PUKING (he does this so often John calls him ME-PUKE and has recently thought Pepe Le Puke was a good nickname too). I tried to grab him, to get him to the floor, but NO he was on my bed.  The one where I had just removed the mattress protector so I could adjust it differently tomorrow, argghhh!!!  He was puking just under the window, so in the crack between the wall and the mattress, as well as on the mattress and 2/3 of the extra sheets I had brought as back up.  I was so close to getting to sleep - sigh.  So now I am up, trying to clean the bed and switch to some new sheets and well if you've never seen an RV bed being made, I should do a video for you, cuz it's...well...humorous and a workout and it's made worse because I AM the princess and the pea and will feel every wrinkle and bump (so annoying).  Anyhoo, Minou took his own time-out, since he knew momma was a little peeved.  Thing is, that he pukes because he eats so fast. So I am usually feeding him tiny bits at a time, but apparently this time it was a smidge too much.

Thursday the 5th was going to be low key.  A shower!!!  Coffee, cards, LAUNDRY (including sheets now) hanging with dad and chatting, getting to the grocery store to stock our fridge a little better, back to the house to play more cards and later dinner with some cousins I had never met.  But first before dinner I had a moment of misjudgment, my eyes and feet played a trick on me and I lost my footing coming out of the RV.  The right leg stayed put twisting at my hip joint, my left knee turned a bit, I tried to avoid going down and turned to grab the right sided handrail with my left hand.  I was successful avoiding the fall, but I definitely injured myself.   I smiled and tried to act like I could manage, but I was in pain.  I had pulled my hammy a bit while working out the Wednesday before I left and it had just started to feel better.  Not so much anymore.  Dad said I was walking like I had a stick up my butt (pleasant, right?).  gahhhhh!!!

Dad is originally from Owensboro, KY, but he joined the Army at 18 and didn't move back to that area until 19 years ago.   Since he lost his sister and his best friend & cousin, Beverly he has truly been embraced by his other cousins (Beverly's nieces & nephews) Mary Dean & her husband, Tim and Dale & his wife Debbie.  Though I have heard my dad talk of them often I had yet to meet them in person until last night.  Dad treated us all to a nice dinner at The Olive Garden.

Didn't realize until posting this picture that we all seemed to have a color scheme going.

I wasn't sure if I was going to bring Minou inside his house, cuz I didn't want to confuse him, but he embraced it and enjoyed the space.  Bringing him back when we went to bed in the RV, BUT since we were in a safe spot and it was so hot we decided to leave the door open to let the air come through the screen door, only this was more of a tease for Minou.  For some reason he thought it was a safe place to hang outside over night, so he continuously woke me up trying to get me to let him out.  ARGGGHHHH!!!

A wonderful visit with my dad!  I think it was especially nice since we had gotten word this past week that his lung cancer that he was blessed with at the start of covid had spread.  Same lung, lower lobe now, radiation is being scheduled.  The treatment he had 4 years ago kept things super stable, we are confident that this too will work.   Thanks for a great visit dad!!
