Prep work & departure

Well, today is the day!!! Finally all packed up and on the road.  So far only seemed to forget a couple items in the freezer that we wanted to take.  I expect there will be something else.  ðŸ˜œ

The last month we have done a lot of work to prep the RV, include taking a weekend trip with our friends, Fran & Jimmy!  It was our one and only trip this summer, but all seems good (knock on wood).  John really did a great job making sure things were taken care of with the function of the RV, as well as some touch ups with paint and silicone.  I handled the cleaning and organizing of necessities.  The house looked like a disaster, but now is "clean" & ready for our return in 2 months.

We have both been a bundle of nerves, lots of nervous energy going around and boy do we handle that differently.  We said good-bye to our little munchkins yesterday.  That is the worst part of leaving - not seeing them and feeling like we've deserted Johnny & Kaitlyne.  Minou definitely noticed something was up.  Handled it ok, even coming in and out of the RV while we packed.  Until today...he was skittish and was trying to get outside (being an outside cat, he wanted out).  He had the morning, but about a half hour before we left we kept him inside.  No need to go hunting and delay our start.  He was a good boy and let me pick him up.  I would have loved a departure pic with him too, but that would have been too risky.  He usually sits with me up front in the RV but today he is on my bed snuggled up in the corner.

We have an awesome app/website called RV Life.  We set up our destinations and "plans" most are flexible.  But we do have some official stops that will not be messed with.  We inputed our RV info so that the directions will lead us through safe travels (regarding height, weight of vehicle).  Our first stop will be Grantville, PA.  We are boondocking (no campsite, no hook up, self sufficient) at a place called Smoking Aces.  It's a BBQ restaurant.  We joined a thing called Harvest Hosts.  There you can find places willing to let you stay on their property for free, though appreciate you patronizing their establishment.  These include, restaurants, breweries, wineries, farms and people's homes.  Someone else recommended another option for us, Boondockers Welcome, so we'll peek at that too.

Thanks for coming along on our journey with us.  We are both super excited to have this opportunity!!!

  1. This is so exciting. I love that Minou is going with you. Is he going to be an indoor cat for the trip or will he be allowed outside? I like that you have a blog of your trip. This is a wonderful way to document your memories and to share with friends and family. Have fun. (It is okay to forget things, there is always a Wal-Mart nearby. 😆)

    1. Jess I have a harness and leash for him, but when I put it on him he gets grumpy and refuses to come outside. Silly cat.

  2. Thanks for sharing your journey! I'm happy I can put my name in so you know it's me commenting. I still can't do it from Blogger directly unless I create my own blog. Dumb!

  4. Hi Amy it’s Aunt Sandra. I’m not very good at this. Lol. Thoroughly enjoyed your adventure and all the pictures! John did a great job handling the heights. Especially climbing the lander. Wow! Happy you both had such a wonderful time. Love you.
